Rivendell Newfoundlands

As with all breeds of dogs, newfoundlands are susceptible to certain congenital and genetically transmissable  diseases and ailments,  including hip and elbow dysplasia, sub-aortic stenosis, and cystinuria.  We, as responsible breeders, make every effort to eliminate these potentially debilitating diseases from our breeding program.

Our dogs were carefully chosen from bloodlines shown to be free of these problems and all have been  subsequently screened by the Orthopedic Foundation for animals (OFA) for hip and elbow dysplasia, and have been found free of heart defects by a veterinary cardiologist. Thyroid panels are normal and they are clear for cystinuria by dna or parentage. For details see each dog’s individual page.

For general information about the Newfoundland breed, including more detailed information on health issues, please see our Breed Info page.

For more information on the OFA screening process, visit their website at WWW.OFFA.org where Individual dogs may be searched by their registered name or by kennel name

In addition to the screening process mentioned above, Puppies are carefully checked by our vet at 7 weeks and are dewormed and vaccinated as appropriate.

We provide a 1-year health guarantee for each puppy. See our contract for details.

In addition, we provide lifetime support for all of our puppies should re-homing become necessary.
